5 Things To Consider When Planning An Outdoor Wedding
An outdoor wedding allows for creative potential, the space and beautiful scenery also make stunning wedding photography. To fully embrace an outdoor wedding, prepare for all possible eventualities. Especially if you're the type of person who struggles to let go of control or if you don't enjoy being outdoors for a significant length of time.
If this wedding setup is something you've always imagined, just be mindful that the planning and organisation of an outdoor wedding is quite different from its indoor counterpart.
Here are 5 things you need to consider when planning your outdoor wedding:
Prepare Yourself for the Weather
An outdoor wedding has the potential to be something truly spectacular. However, if the British weather has anything to do with it, bright blue skies can turn into dark grey clouds in an instant. Therefore pre-planning weather essentials is a must. For example, parasols, fans, umbrellas and gazebos. But don't let the thought of bad weather dampen your spirits; we can always have your wedding ceremony inside if things don't quite go according to plan.
Decorating your outdoor setting
Our outdoor space offers plenty of potential to inject some creative flair. Every outdoor setting is different and you can be as formal or as informal as you like. Lighting can help create an ambience, natural textures like hardwood flooring creates a formal setting and linen, satin and velvet can add a premium touch.
The wonderful thing about getting married outdoors is having the opportunity to work with nature. This is particularly useful when it comes to decor. Trees can also be used as props and decorated with bunting or lighting.
Prepare for cooler evenings
It can get a little chilly in the evenings outdoors when the sun goes down. Extra blankets will keep your guests warm and cosy as the evening draws in close. As well as a wine or beer jacket (!) tea, coffee and cocoa are also a welcome treat, particularly for older guests and of course encouragement to throw more moves on the dancefloor often warms up the party!
Insects
If you're planning to spend lots of time in the evening outdoors and are considering insects posing a pesky problem, provide your guests with a small bottle of insect repellent. Anti-bug flowers also help to deter any little unwanted biting friends. Marigolds, Chrysanthemums, Lavender may help as well as Citronella candles.
The Seating Plan
The space allows you to be more creative with an outdoor wedding ceremony. When it comes to seating your guests, you could decide on a more traditional approach or think of something entirely out of the box, such as benches instead of chairs. Or a spiral seating design, perhaps so you can take centre stage in the middle. Having an outdoor ceremony can often mean guests inevitably have easy access to their seats and have a good view.
Here at Newburgh Priory, we offer the option to enjoy the beauty of indoors or outdoors for you and your guests. The ceremony can take place in the Long Gallery Ruin before you and your partner then head indoors to sign the legalities with the registrar, in one of our registered Georgian rooms. Followed by dinner and dancing in the marquee.
