Newburgh Priory was founded in 1145 its in unique location is on the edge of the Howardian Hills, nestled near the village of Coxwold, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On the site of an Augustinian Priory, the House today is still the home of the Wombwell family.
During your visit besides the House, you can explore a water garden, hand crafted topiary, a walled garden, woodland walks and in the wider parkland, a large lake. With breath-taking views towards the White Horse of Kilburn in the distance, the gardens make for an ideal photo spot.
Refuel in the charming Old Priory Kitchen Tearoom with drinks and home-baked cakes or enjoy sitting outside amongst the ivy in our Long Gallery ruins.
Unique in character and charm the House & Grounds are steeped in history, with an intriguing past and links to the English military and political figure Oliver Cromwell. The wider estate at Newburgh Priory incorporates a range of agricultural,residential & commercial property in over 6,000 acres with large tracts of woodland and a pheasant shoot. It continues to evolve and diversify, preserving the past whilst managing the present to build for the future.
